It’s a direct correlation of what I want to do. Since I’m doing a lot of writing stuff, being able to read hundreds of works from different authors gives me a real-world example of what people are publishing or want to publish. I feel like I get an inside look.

The Writing Center

The Writing Center offers tutoring and other services to all Northwest students. Many students from the department gain valuable experience as writing tutors or student managers! Students also have the opportunity to work as writing fellows with faculty in classrooms.

GreenTower Press

GreenTower Press is a small press supported by the department and managed by two faculty members. GreenTower Press publishes a highly lauded literary magazine, The Laurel Review.  Student interns gain professional publishing experience with GreenTower Press and The Laurel Review each term. Students work as editors-in-training at The Laurel Review, where they read, evaluate and edit manuscripts for publication.

Although internships are not required with the English major, they are highly encouraged. Interns have worked with the following organizations:

Expanded scholarship model with tiers up to $6,000 with merit scholarships. Once applied and admitted, eligible students are automatically awarded a merit-based scholarship based on their academic information. Need-based and other scholarships are also available.
